Welcome

Welcome to Green Light Speech! Our logo, the international "go" symbol is a reflection of our vision to provide individuals and their families with the "green light" to begin and make successful progress on their journey toward effective and age-appropriate communication.

Expat families are unique, and each of us have specific cultural and language backgrounds. It is important for us to work as a team and learn from each other as we discover the pathway toward success.

Don't forget to visit our blog, where we share resources and discuss speech-language issues relevant to expat families in the Netherlands.

About Paula:

Paula graduated with her master's degree in 2011 from the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA. Additionally, she minored in the field Elementary Education, and obtained a provisional teaching license from the state of Michigan. Paula graduated with honors, conducting her capstone research project on "English Language and Literacy Enrichment Comparing Comprehension and Alphabetic-Phonological Approaches". During Paula's university career she worked closely with the university, built strong relationships with the department and its staff as a graduate/teaching assistant, and continued to work on research projects with the university long after graduation.

As a student intern and volunteer, Paula has worked in several different environments, both clinical and educational. In her clinical work she took on many challenges and worked closely with other service providers in schools, rehabilitation hospitals, and private clinics, providing treatment to both children and adults. She also volunteered and interned as a general education teacher for children aged 3-10 years, and worked as a substitute teacher for students up to 15 years. Paula's interests in international travel and volunteer work have brought her to Nicaragua and China where she has provided both clinical and educational services to under-serviced areas.

After graduation, Paula worked as a clinical fellow in a rehabilitiation/pediatric therapy clinic, conducting evaluations, developing treatment programs, and providing therapy services to children and adults who presented with a wide range of diagnoses. After several months of work experience, Paula applied for her Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), which she currently maintains.

In late 2012, Paula saw a need for comprehensive English communication services in the Netherlands, particularly in the expatriate communities of large cities. As a dual Dutch-American citizen, Paula moved to the Netherlands in 2013 to found Green Light Speech.

Paula's experience, knowledge, passion for children, and fun approach is sure to make a positive impact on whomever is her client.
